Role Distributor
Enter your player count and tap the button. Roles are randomly shuffled every time β no more deliberating at the table.
Number players 1 to N going clockwise from the person to your left. Read each player their assigned role from the result.
Single-player demo mode. Assign Detective to the player β youβll voice all other roles. Not recommended for a real workshop without additional players.
Two-player mode. Each player holds two roles. Roles are paired to keep workloads balanced: Detective + Protector (technical) and Communicator + Crisis Manager (leadership).
Three-player mode. Crisis Manager is removed β you (the IM) voice that perspective when needed. This works well; IMs naturally coordinate, so the role fits you.
Standard setup. All four core roles active. This is the design target for beginner scenarios.
Adding Tracker. Network analysis becomes a dedicated focus β good for scenarios with lateral movement or data exfil.
Full roster. All six roles active. Threat Hunter adds proactive hunting pressure to the scenario dynamic.
One role is doubled. The two players sharing a role should sit together and coordinate before contributing β treat them as one voice with extra depth.
Two roles doubled. Detective and Protector are the highest-workload roles, so having pairs on both is a natural fit.
Consider splitting into two teams of 4β5 players running the same scenario in parallel β then compare decisions at the debrief. Single-team facilitation with 9+ is difficult.
Consider splitting into two teams of 4β5 players running the same scenario in parallel β then compare decisions at the debrief. Single-team facilitation with 9+ is difficult.
This group is too large for a single IM to facilitate effectively. Recommend splitting and recruiting a co-IM, or running multiple simultaneous scenarios.
- Call out role names as you reveal them so players can start thinking about their character
- For doubled roles, seat those two players together so they can coordinate
- 4 players is the design sweet spot β every role in the core four gets meaningful screen time
- If someone pushes back on their role, remind them the random draw is part of the game
Run the session normally. You voice Crisis Manager at key coordination moments β things like βthe Crisis Manager calls a 2-minute syncβ or βCrisis Manager, you decide: patch now or wait for forensics.β IMs naturally do this anyway; the 3-player count just makes it explicit.
